Hi, I’m Kashif!
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at Ala-Too International University in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I joined the university in early 2018.
I received my Doctorate in Finance from Jamia Millia Islamia, the Central Government University in Delhi, India, in 2013. Afterward, I joined the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In 2014, I became an assistant professor at a university in Konya, Turkey, where I worked for nearly 2.5 years. In 2017, I transitioned to an international business consultant role for Vendeka Information Technologies in Manila, Philippines. I have been with Ala-Too International University since 2018, teaching courses such as financial management, statistics, data analytics, and geo-economics.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I served as the Director of the Silk Road Research Centre at Ala-Too International University from 2019 to 2024. I organized four high level International conferences focused on Central Asia, conducted webinars, invited guest speakers for lectures, and moderated panel discussions. Additionally, I wrote books and grant proposals. I have also engaged in collaborations with renowned publishers for the publication of my books.
In addition, I taught, remotely, finance related subjects at the International Black Sea University (IBSU) in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 2022 to 2024. Furthermore, I delivered brief intensive courses at organisations such as the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
My research interests include economic corridors, international trade, geo-economics, and Central Asia. I have numerous research articles in reputable journals indexed in ABDC, Web of Science, and Scopus. My opinions have been featured in outlets such as Modern Diplomacy, The Diplomat, etc.
I have received multiple grants and scholarships, including three Erasmus+ teaching fellowships (2015, 2016, 2022), a travel grant from the European Research Network for participating in the International Summer School on “Social Economy” in Trento, Italy (2012), a scholarship from the Indo-Turkish Business Association (ITBA) for field work in Istanbul, Turkey (2011), and a Field Research Grant for visiting Bahrain and Qatar from the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS) in 2021. The Government of India’s University Grant Commission also awarded me the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) for my PhD research from 2010 to 2013.
I am a multilingual person. In addition to my native Urdu/Hindi, I can speak English, Turkish, Arabic, and Russian. I picked up all these languages naturally throughout the course of the last ten years of living in various countries. Speaking different languages with the locals enables me to learn more about their society, customs, and other aspects of life. My writing, particularly my most recent work of fiction, “The Accidental Preacher,” reflects this. I have a deep passion for reading. I read a wide variety of literature, but fiction has a unique place in my heart. I’m now working on my second fiction.
I have visited more than 50 countries, and continue to travel motivated by a strong inclination to acquire knowledge and engage in explorations.
